Byron Bay

Ah, Byron Bay. A surfer’s paradise and a backpacker’s dream all in one, this beachside town is located in the far-northeastern corner of New South Wales, Australia. Byron Bay rests in the protected bay of Cape Byron, the easternmost point of mainland Australia. The cape is what remains of the caldera of an ancient and collosal shield volcano called Tweed Volcano. But don’t worry, Byron Bay is a very safe place to live and visit. The volcano hasn’t erupted in 23 million years!

Byron Bay is a small town with a big name. While the resident population comes in at just a little over 9,000 people, the city has earned international recognition and now receives thousands of visitors each year as a result. Visitors travel from across Australia and from across the world for that matter to see and experience attractions like Tallow Beach, Cape Byron Lighthouse, Wategos Beach, famous shipwreck sites, excellent whale watching opportunities, snorkeling, surfing, the famous 61 Jonson Street, the old Lighthouse Road, and the historic Casino-Murwillumbah Railway.

Though it is still a “small town,” Byron Bay has grown considerably in the last few years. But even with recent growth and development, this quaint gem of New South Wales has not lost its appeal to a diverse range of visitors. Byron Bay attracts nature lovers who want to experience the wild outdoors and the beautiful beaches of the region. And thanks to the rising art culture in the city, Byron Bay also attracts artists and art appreciators.
